4.2 cutting out.

Hi there. Just traded my 85 F150 on a 97 F150 XL with 4.2, 5speed. I love the truck but miss my old beater. Anyway, I have a small problem. Under load, like accellerating(sp?) or pulling a small hill it will cut out/ miss fire. It's not real bad or very regular. In fact if your not paying attention you might not even notice it. It does have a cat that's rattling, getting it replaced tomorrow. Other than that it runs like a dream. Any ideas?
Thanks
Keith

Just running the single pipe for now... Thinking about duals all the way to the rear maybe later.

everyone goes on and on about duals, but i would like to run duals out of the headers of my 302 and into a dual in single 3" out flowmaster 40 series. unfortunately they don't make such a thing, but oh well, i can dream. I think it would sound awesome cause the single 3" pipe would lower the tone of the exhaust and since i don't have a big cam separate pipes have no advantage sound-wise.

i believe the wider the pipe diameter you go up the more you're going to mess your computer chip up..

Thanks DRIZZT, I hadn't thought about that. It just got a transplant out of a 99 with 41k miles so that didn't even enter my little pee brain. I'll give that a shot. Had the codes checked today and everything looked good so that didn't help any.
