I just bought a pioneer 6-disc in dash cd player off of ebay for my 2002 F-150 FX4. I was told that the factory wiring harness chould just plug into the radio and everything would work fine. Well the factory harness doesn't fit into the radio..... any suggestions?? or is there anywhere i can get an adapter or something to make it work??
Yes, you need an adapter. You should be able to find it at walmart or a car audio shop. The adapter plugs into the trucks harness and then you connect the correct wires from the adapter to the stereo's wire harness. You did get the stereo's wiring, right? If not you have another problem.
You can also check Crutchfield for adapters.
It is a Ford factory Pioneer stereo. is there a harness i can get from ford hopefully?? I know there is a harness that will connect to the wiring in the truck, just finding one for the stereo is the problem....
Oh, I see. I think you may have a problem. Your truck was equiped with the standard audio pakage and the 6 disk stereo is part of the premium audio pakage, that is why the plugs are different. You could still get this to work but you need to get the plug for the 6 disk stereo. Not sure if you can get this from Ford, but you could probably find it at a junkyard. Then you would need to splice the stereo to your truck's wiring. You could also solder some leads straight out of the stereo, if you can't find a plug.
Thanks....I hoped it wouldn't have to come down to that... good thing I majored in electronics, haha! I'm waiting to hear back from both ford and pioneer, so If something comes up thats easier i'll post it.
