4-turbo setup for the diesel and press 350+ psi.

Would the heads be called self ejecting?

the 4.0 inline 6 would really have to be screaming to make 1100+ hp. the diesel can spin fast too tho, but it doesnt need to go 10K to make power.

on an "unlimited budjet" u could do all kinds of stuff with anything. maybe even make a duramax run well! maybe......

Yes you could do all kinds of stuff...

The 4.0l inline 6 I was talking about only runs to 7000rpm... (I have a friend with a 2.8l inline 6 - a stroked Nissan Skyline - that redlines at 10000rpm...)

A diesel can spin reasonably fast, but no where near as fast as a petrol, due to the much higher compression ratio.

If you think of it this way, the PSD already has one form of power adder on stock, which is a turbo,
(I think they run around 18psi stock? am not sure though, someone please chime in)

A V10 is just the base engine, which makes more power to start with.
You add an equivelant turbo set up to the PSD (with areas such as bottom end, fuel system, intake and exhaust upgraded to handle the increased flow, which the PSD already comes with), and you are looking at well over 1000hp...

From there, you could go on...

I'm just tossing in an opinion here, but, wouldn't it depend on just exactly what type of contest you arranged?

For example, when you watch the truck/tractor pulls, you see that the heavily modded diesels can pull more weight than the "tractors" that have multiple, blown, alcohol injected gassers bolted in the frame.

When you see the big unlimited truck engines twist one front tire several feet off the ground and pull the sled with all the weight they can load into it, the diesel respect level has to go up.

On the other hand, you don't see too many diesels at the Funny Car Nationals....

Not street legal on 130 or methanol!

6.0PSD will peak about 26psi stock mine runs about 36psi. I think Big Hoss has pushed his to around 44-46psi if I remember right. I know of diesels that are for sure running around 150-180psi of boost!!

Whether you get your cylinder pressure from boost or from compression there is only so much you can do with 91 octane. I would imagine a V-10 set-up to make 1000hp is not going to be much of a truck motor and it is still not going to make the torque a diesel will make.

Depending on what blower is used it is likely that your boost range is going to be from around 3500-4000 and up, that is with a centrifical.

A diesel as long as it is within operating temp is pretty much unlimited on the amount of power it can make, until you physically start blowing parts because of metallurgy and strength.

Hmmm I wonder if the V-10 crank will take 1000+ ft-lbs at the flywheel?

brian460, i have 2 6.0's and they both get 30+ lbs of boost stock...when i put the predator or the hypertech on, then i get around 40 lbs of boost from a stock turbo....if you konw someone that is only getting 26 lbs, they need to get it checked

I know methanol woundn't make it street legal, and I can't talk about the US, but I personally know of 3 cars here in Australia that are fully EPA compliant on 130RON AvGas, aswell as our 98RON Premium unleaded, its just they make less power on the 98RON - but with AvGas130 around US$15.00gal here they are a bit cheaper to run on the premium!!!.

If thats the case, imagine a V10 with 26psi of boost... hmmm...

I think one set up to "only" 1000hp would still be a reasonable truck motor, my 5.4l which makes over 700hp at the crank still has more torque at idle than a stock 5.4l does at its peak...
Beyond 1000hp, yes drivability would go out the window, but in search of ultimate power with an unlimited budget who cares???

Thats a rather big call, diesels essentially have the same limitations petrol engines do, its just because the way they are designed they have higher tolerances to "fiddling with" than petrol engines.
Hmmm I wonder if the V-10 crank will take 1000+ ft-lbs at the flywheel?
Don't know, wouldn't mind finding out though, I somehow doubt it could stock.
But that doesn' mean it can't with some "playing"...

An example of what a gas engine can do:
This car is ran by some people I know, and it is ONLYa 2.7l engine as well...

Click on "Specifications", then "GTR-700"

Imagine what a 6.8l V10 is capable of????

Please tell me where you are finding diesel for $2.19. I live in San Diego right now and the cheapest I found is $2.49 and that is on the military base.

Matt you sure know how to get things started.

Back to earth everyone. Out of the box mods ...V-10 vs 6.0L

Cost, power gains, proof and an important issue is it driveable for daily use. If John Force chimes in about HP we are going to far.

The turbo charged 6.0L against the naturally asperated V-10......if turbo charging is an advantage then 12 inches will have to be hack sawed off the V-10 because of cubic inch gains......which end would you like it removed from?

I wondered how far I would get with that one... Well I found out...
I think I made my point though, running 30psi stock is a bit of an advantage.

BTW which cylinder would you like, 1,2,9 or 10?

the reason a diesel has more capability isnt from the heavier parts, its because of the injection and compression ignition. in a gasser u have to keep things from lighting until the piston is up far enuf. a diesel doesnt care how much boost or water or whatever is in there because the fuel doesnt go in until ya want it there. thats the difference. now, there is talk of new designs in gassers comin out that work on the same principles as a diesel. (can u then call it a gasser?) that will be very interesting to see in operation..... imagine a high winding gasser with 150psi boostin it woohoo!

i enjoy this friendly debating its nice nobody has flipped out as of yet and gotten the thread closed

If you noticed the national news today about energy concerns......the country needs to move towards more diesels. The gas-electrics are a wash but sound nice for the tree huggers.

So do we need to drag some V-10 owners over to this thread and get them to chime in? I would like to hear about super charging and numbers to go with it.

Yeah, diesels can be better for the environment, but the V10 is rated as a Low Emission engine if I recall correctly.

And I doubt a diesel with black smoke pouring from the exhausts would be much better (more likely worse) on the environment than a supercharged V10.
I could be wrong though...

it does look bad, but diesel smoke is just soot. nothing noxious. its only emission is "particulate".

i think a debate on the difference between a modded 6.0 and a modded 5.4
