Power Window slipping on '88 E150

Hi, my driver's-side window is slipping when actuated by the power-window motor. I have the door panel off and can see the sliding actuator arm getting budged, it just doesn't seem to catch enough to move the window (up or down). The motor sounds like it's spinning but that's about it.

Is there a clean way to get at the motor/worm gear to troubleshoot this? There's not much of a hole or space in the van door.

Thanks.
Dan

the bushings in the motor gear housing are worn out ... There are 3 small nylon Bushings.
there is a kit you can buy to repair this...You used to be able to get a kit from Ford, i havent checked lately.
You migh also check with Autozone, etc...
i found my last kit on ebay $4.99... i have a 91 E150.

NAPA also carried the kit about 2 years ago (last time I needed one for a 1988 E150, since sold). A little fuzzy on this but I beileve that rivets had to be drilled out if the motor/regulator was coming out for the first time.

I had the same problem on my '92 E-150, eventualy the cable jumped off the nylon runners and got tanggled in the gears. I bought a complete window regulator and motor together for approx $130 about 5 months ago from www.partsamerica.com.

hope this helps

Sounds more like the gear has shredded itself. Autozone used to carry a complete rebuild kit, gears, bushings and grease for abour $35.

So, sounds like at the very least, I'll need to pull the motor/gear assembly. There looks to be 3 smal rivets and 1 larger one. Which ones do I need to drill out and how do I replace them afterwards?

We drilled them out, and the bolted it back in place. I forget which rivets need to be removed.

sounds like the plastic gear on the motor is cracked.
i had the same problem on my van, replaced it and the
other window failed 2 days later.

i recall a quick grip clamp being useful in holding the window
while getting the mechanism in and out of the door, which is
a real knuckle busting pain.

i also bolted it back together, and taped the nuts to an open
end wrench to make them easier to get back on. you'd like
3 hands to do this job.
