Question 60' frame modifications?

I looked under engine compartment and noticed the engine mounts and what looks like a crossmember at mid frame were cut. I really have no clue as to how the frame is supposed to look but the truck was modified several years ago and a 460/C6 was installed. My question is.... Is this normal to see, or has the frame been cut/modified? I have a picture in gallery. Any insite/enlightenment would be greatly appreciated.

Thre front crossmember that was cut (the round one) is not original to your truck, it was added to do an engine swap. The rear crossmember is original and is where the rear motor mounts attach to the bell housing. These trucks used 4 motor mounts, two on the bell housing, and 2 that attached to a bracket in the timing cover area.

Hey, what's kool about that is - it looks like the same crossmember that I have supporting my 351M in my '60. It's obviously aftermarket too, but it's the same tube type construction. I'm having a prob with that crossmember laying on my axle now that I've lowered the front 3" w/monos.

I was thinking of cutting my crossmember like yours is now and hoping that it supports the engine anyways. It's not like I'm taking it off road or on long trips. So I guess we'll see............?

The second crossmember(the one the orignal bell housing bolted to) has been cut by the looks of your pic and shouldn't have been. Your risking alot of frame twist with that one gone. You'll need to reconnect it somehow. -4speed

Hmm,

Thanks for heads up 4speed. As soon as I can get some free time and more room situated, I'll have to get a closer look. Also, I purchased a 60' F-100 shop manual today from BOTP, should get in mail in 1-2 weeks. Wasnt to cheap either... $82.00 after shipping.

I've got my 58 panel down to the frame if you need or want pictures of how the frame was original. Don't know for sure what the differences between a panel vs truck were, but the front part of the frame should be the same. (?)

I had removed that x-member too but I had done a clean job by removing the rivets the rear front spring hanger is riveted to the same spot so if you put a new x-member in you will have to bolt it in I had to remove mine because the 302 and 4 speed didn't fit with that x-member

Thanks for the help/offers .... I having a hard time tring to make time to work on her.

Some pics of that 58' frame would be nice rustickles, I could then see what that x member looked like.

Thanks for the offer Glack, I was thinking of buying another 60' for parts.... but if I need that x member, you'll be the first person I'll go to ..
