Quiet air intakes

How loud is a cold air intake? I have read you can here it in the cab. If you have say a borla catback, rear exit, with an airforce1 or volant, how loud are we talking or is it pure harmony? I would hate to go overboard with my 04 lariat. Any sound clips? Thanks.

The whole point of an aftermarket intake is to get more air flow, this causes increased sound levels. I have an airraid intake and borla muffler on my 02 F150 5.4, it is slightly louder at idle, but give it gas and you can definatley hear the air being sucked into the engine. If you don't want to hear this, then it's not for you. I guess it's a love it or hate it situation.

That is true, although Volant is the quietest, due to its enclosed nature.

Triton, got the same setup on mine and to me, it is sweet harmony! I got the remote start and while in the office preparing to leave I get her started to cool the cab, she'll start with a growl then after about a minute she levels off in sound to the point of a purr. she's pretty quiet compared to my co-worker's chevy w/ Flowmaster and Airaid. that combo on his truck is very loud at idle and that's what I didn't want.

I'm waiting for the Volant's to come off of backorder. They appear to be the quietest design as well as the best insulated from engine heat.

Based on the Volant's design, I wouldn't expect a significant increase over factory in terms of noise.

Just installed the K&N system on my FX-4. Yes, it sounds like the old Rochester 4 Barrel kicking in when you gas it. Cruising at a normal speed, the sound isn't heard. Stomp down on it and you hear the vacuum cleaner sucking sound. I wasn't crazy about the sound, but if it helps the mileage any, it will be worth it.
