Wheel and Tires questions

I just bought a 2004 FX4 f150.

It has the 18 inch wheels and 275/65/18's on it already.

I am going to buy a set chrome eagle 18x9 wheels, and put on a 285/65/18 BFG all terrains.

Do you think this will look good? or will I want more tire? I don't want to put on a leveling kit really, since I want good ride quality, and gas mileage which is mainly the reason I wouldn't try and put a big tire under there.

My only other option would be the 325/60/18 nitto terra grappler on an 18" wheel, but those tires are $$$$ and I don't know how they'd perform compared to the BFG AT/s

Let me know what you guys think--or if you know of any tire sizes a bit bigger than 285s for an 18 inch wheels

Welcome to FTE DarkFX4. Modern leveling kits shouldnt affect ride quality at all. The Daystar kit, from what I understand, merely fits between your stock front springs, and the upper (or lower) mount. You still retain the stock springs, so you keep the stock ride. Also, the lift itself shouldnt impact gas mileage greatly. However, spinning larger tires will.

I know the lift won't affect mileage, but then I'm going to be running 35's , at least 33's....and that will.

The 2" leveling kit, and 33's on a 17 or 18 would look pretty good I'd think..

Good luck getting that size BFG- I've been told by several dealers they aren't even in production and won't be available until November (maybe) which I can't understand why and just plain bites!

i just got the 2.5 skyjacker kit ... im going to put it on tomorrow... id get the 325 nittos.... the bfg ats are great tires but 285s still look to small on a 18" rim.... thats just my 2 cents... also my buddy has the terra grapplers 37" with 20" rim and loves the tires... but super expensive!!

Anyone have experience with the Nittos and how they handle in rainy or snow conditions vs. the BFG ATs? I do agree that the BFGs are still sort of undersized looking.

my dad has bfgs a/t ranging from 265-285s and they are awesome in snow,.... great traction for stopping and going... i do know the nittos are awesome in snow too... the tires went through about 5-7feet of snow in wyoming with a snowmobile trailer.... then again they were 37 and 6in fabtech lift... and the 285 bfgs followed

My brother just brough home an 04 f350 powerstroke 6.0 today in silver gray....

He's getting 18s and nitto terra grappler 35's he says--should be on within a week or two, I'll let you know how they look and balance out when he gets them..

I think I'm going to go with the 325 nittos and 18" wheels!
