H2 wheels on a Ford?

I am planning on putting Hummer wheels on my '90 F-250 as I got them cheap off Ebay. I have milled out the center bores so that they fit over the hubs. All the measuring I have done says I should not get any rubbing at full lock as long as I don't go too big on the tires. My biggest concerns right now are that the integrity of the wheel has been compromised by opening the center bore and I have heard that Hummer wheels are cast and are not as strong as they could be. Does anyone have exact load ratings for these wheels?

Opening the center might not hurt as long as the loads are transferred to the hub like they should be. Also, I thought they were 6 lug wheels...

I can't say all Hummer wheels are 8-lug, but the ones I got are 8-lug with an 8 on 6.5 bolt pattern. They certainly look better than the factory steel wheels that are on there now.

I see now...

I couldn't say about the strength. How much did you open up the centers?

In stock form the hub diameter was 4.58". I opened it up to 4.88" or thereabouts. Just enough so it would fit over the hub on the both the front and rear axles. I say thereabouts because I didn't want it so tight that it was hard to get on and off.

I don't know if 3/10ths would weaken the wheel very much - I wouldn't think so, just as long as there is still a good amount of material left on the wheel.

I thought I would post back and let you know that the H2 wheels seem to be just fine with the centers opened up. I've had several good loads of firewood on the truck with no problems. They handle well at freeway speeds and look pretty good too.

do you have any pics of the centers opened up?? Is it a lip you take off or the entire center of the hub you need to grind down? Did you dremil the centers or use machine shop equipment??

I have a chance to get a set of "free" H2 wheels(don't have them right now). I also found out the H2(vehicle itself) weighs in at the range of 9000LBs so the rims should be pleanty strong enough.

A nicely optioned H2 weighs about 6400lbs with full fuel tanks.

Taking off 3/16" off the centers should be fine, as long as the thickness of the wheel center is the same after your turned it. Or, if it is, you don't overload your F250.

I will try to get pictures this weekend. I used a ridge reamer to open the centers. I can't take credit for thinking of that one, though. I was reading on the Turbo Diesel Register about a guy that did it that way.
Here's the link:

I think it took me an hour or so per wheel.

I'm not a member of turbodieselregister so it won't let me view the entire post, any way that you can copy the procedure and paste it into FTE Forum?

Thanks,

Dave

I was able to see the first post on the thread, but not the actual procedure of how to use the ridge reamer to open the centers.

That is the most important part for me, which non-members to that site can't see.

I have 5 of the H2 wheels that I plan to put on a dana 60 front and sterling FF rear. This info would be very helpful...

maybe I'll just register....

Thanks
