Rear brakes - 53 vs. 65

I put in a 1965 9" rear end to get the 3.25 gear ratio. The bolt pattern is still 5.5 x 5. The 65 has self adjusters, but other than that is there any difference? I have new wheel cylinders and shoes that I was going to use with the '53 before the rear end change. Can I still use them? Shoes look the same...
