favorite tool

Ohhhh, you've asked the wrong guy, the more I think about my tools the harder it is to choose a favorite, how do you pick between a drill press and an air chisel that eats through sheet metal and makes those neat little curled up metal shavings. or between a sandblaster and the air compressor that makes it work. for the longest time my Snap On ball joint remover was a favorite cause it worked so much better than a picklefork, but I still can't choose. I'm going back to the "What's the best tool you've ever found" Forum.

I bought a socket set from K-mart years ago. It was one of those sets that were both SAE and metric sockets all in one. The kind that turn on the side wall of the fastener not the corners. When the six point spun on the top starter bolt of my wifes crown vic those sockets pulled it right out. Now they sell them as specialty bolt extracters at a mucher higher price. It is 3/8 drive with a synthetic ratchet (nice if your out doors in the winter). It has three extensions the longest being a wobble extension all in a compact case.

What an awesome thread, you guys should have never let it die.
Anyways, I have a crescent wrench that I always seem to be using. There is no brand on the handle but it's top quality whatever it is. It's tight, I can set it to a size and take off just about any nut at any torque without losing grip. I let it sit out in the rain and it doesn't rust.. I used it to take apart my whole rear end, it held the bolt while my impact loosened the nuts. I usually grab whatever tool is closest and then search for a better tool until I find one that works. Crescent wrench, pliers, hammers and screwdrivers are usually the first tools I grab, I have to 'move on' fewer times after grabbing my crescent wrench than with any other tool.
second is my angle grinder.. some cheap $20 kit from Biglots. I never expected to use it much but it has got me out of so many binds. The casing is falling apart, the handle has to be tightened every use, it gets so hot it burns my hands when I'm using it, but it works.. it's one of those tools that I couldn't have finished jobs without.
third is my new earthquake impact wrench, but not because it's so useful.. i think it's just fun and i'll find any excuse I can to use it. I used it to take out a bunch of 20ftlb 3/8 bolts one day.
