about to buy an 04 F150 Engine query
#16
The 5.4 is a great engine, and you can drive it out of the dealership with good power. If you do plan to tow a lot, go with the larger engine.
For the record, my 4.6 with an intake and Superchip is faster than any 5.4 I test drove, and has beat a Dodge 5.9L. I know it couldn't tow as much as either engine, but I don't tow over 2000 lbs so it doesn't bother me.

Nice offer ...
and if you dont mind I'll take you up on it.
Looking for an extended cab F150 .. dont care about colour or options (though electric windows and a CD or cassette would be nice). I need to do some towing but as yet am unsure as to how much. The wife MAY want a concession stand business in the future for fairs or to park outside Home depot or Lowes or the like. I have been told to avoid the Heritage style as the otherone is newer UNLESS the price differential is significant. Dont think I'll get anything for the 94 F150XLT so I have nothing to trade in. Dont really want to finance anything (they depreciate fast enough without paying interest as well) but the incentive is tempting so I will probably finance as little as possible for as short a time as possible.
The way trucks and cars are sold here is totally alien to me and I find things confusing. The car/truck buying public here is far more educated and "in tune" ( joke geddit ) with what they drive and the array of choices is bewildering. I'm 37 and all I could have told you about anything i have ever driven in the past is the engine capacity. this would be pretty standard for most people in Europe as its the only question insurers ask. The only reason for these postings is that what appeared to be identical trucks varied hugely in price and I am trying to figure things out.
any help greatly appreciated

Because you mentioned in a previous post that you were looking at an off-road model, I'll have to ASSUME that you want a 4x4 (can't read minds, you know...). You're desire for a cassette and power windows means you have to get at least an XLT trim level. An XLT Supercab 4x4 with a trailer-tow package, CD, and cassette would have a sticker price of right around $31500, and an invoice cost to the dealer of $27900. FTE price is $200 below invoice, or $27700. Subtract the $3000 Ford rebate and the $1500 Ford Credit rebate, and you're down to $23200. If the local dealers give you any hassles about selling one to you at this price, just let me know. We got plenty of 'em in Western New York!

Thanks for the info and encouragement guys (gals ? I dunno).
I guess the single most informative thing came from 1956markII. If 5.4's are in short supply then they are the most "in demand" and probably will have the greater resale value and thus the one I should buy. blkfrd4x4lariat2004 is also right ......
Where do I get the best price on a navy or black 2004 (new) f150 extended cab fx4 5.4?

Start here, just plug in what vehicle you want then your zip code. It shows you what every dealer around you has. Don't be afraid to use zip codes 30-40-50 miles away from you to increase your search area..
