67-72 4x4 truck questions...
I have a 71 f100 4x4 with a NP 435 manual transmission mated to a Dana 21 Tcase. First , did the 67-72's come with a C6 transmission mated to a Dana 21 tcase? If so, is it possible to purchase the adapter and tailshaft and use a 2WD C6 if I cannot locate one ? Also does anyone know how to swap in the power steering pump from a 78-79 truck into the 71? My power steering pump does not work well and I heard the newer pumps were better? Thanks

Good,
I have exactly the same same drive train, except in a '71 F250. There are probably hundreds of threads on the PS swap, so do a search and read up. Then come back if you have any questions. You will need to address front cross member interference with a later box. Re: the tranny swap, I think it's actually easier than the PS swap. They did not come that way from the factory, but the C6 mounts to any engine of this era (just make sure you get the right one-different bellhousing patterns for different motors). You can run a 2 wd C6 with a divorced t-case set, which you already have. Just need to get he driveshaft shortened and deal with how you are going to shift it. If you get a junk yard C6, get all the linkage with it. Or, you could get a married C6 like in later trucks and swap out the dana t-case with it. This is what I am going to do after I build and swap a 460.

Good,
I have done the C-6 swap a couple times on a '68 & a '69. It is pretty straight forward provided you get a tranny from a '73-76 F-250 4x4 (FE divorced T-case)it will have the short tail housing with the bolt on yoke and also the proper mounting holes for the 4wd shifter. I used both a B&M shifter and a factory 2wd auto column and they both worked ok but I remember having difficulty with the 2wd col. By staying with factory parts in the same era it saves alot of hassles.
