Just made a trip from southeastern,Oh to Richmond,VA . Stoped by the state fair and to see family. Tried to keep it around 70 but hard to do sometimes. Run out about one and a half tank of fuel. Got 19.3 mpg for all fuel and miles. 03 X 6.0 27,000 miles on it. lie-o-meter reads 16.7 and never changes city or highway.

OS...
you need to reset the overhead periodically unless you WANT to know the average of the fuelage from the day you bought the truck....

hold in both buttons at once until it resets....

2001 X 7.3 w/3.73's get an average of 15.0 highway at best. Do I need to start looking for a problem?

Thumbs up

Hay JD thanks for the reset info. Reset it today, should it be reset on every tankful and will that give you the mpg for that tank.

Only 15?!?

How fast are you driving?

Check my sig, I get 17 almost 18 mpg by doing 65, and on occasion 70 on the freeway. (I always try to maintain either 45 or 50 in town) The only reason you get an average like 15 is if you do about 80-85 mph on the freeway. If you do around 65-70 mph, you'll see about 17-19 mpg (20 if you're lucky) as opposed to 15.

You could also have a dirty air filter, fuel filter or both.

BTW, is this according to the overhead computer or did you do this by hand?

Using the overhead. I reset it each tankful. I have gotten over 700 miles out of a tank 1 time. The air filter is in good shape, the X has 38k on it now. I have never replaced the fuel filter, and there are no driveability issues. She just seems to like her fuel. Alot. As far as speed there should be no issue, where I live you don't want to be more than 9 MPH over the posted 55, or they make you pay a special tax with a piece of yellow paper. I thought it should do better. The wife uses the cruse control set at 60 most of the time, the area is a little hilly, and she gets around 14.8. HELP!

How often you reset depends on what you want to measure..
or a better word would be what you want to "guesstimate"
since the overhead shows trends only and has not been proven to be accurate by most....

Curious though that the ones I have heard are inaccurate are ALWAYS higher than the actually mpg you get !!!

Is it a conspiracy

but I usually DO reset each tank.... since I'm not overlly concerned about mpg, I just like to see the trends on different tanks, not the averages of many...

I know I'm not impressed with the fuel efficiency. I guess the next thing is to take it to the dealer to see what they say, I'm just very reluctant since they warped my rotors when they did the tire recall.

Thecomputer was dead on as far as the mileage said compared to hand calc. It said it was getting 19 mpg when we drove it home from the dealer with a/c maxed in OD on flat freeway.

I just swictched to an afe stage 2 proguard filter, added some diesel kleen additive, and properly inflated all tires, picked up a couple of mpg's....VERY happy with the results...although the filter was a bit pricey...

What kind of tire pressures are the best for fuel mileage/tire wear? I know what the recommendation is at Gross Weight, but what about normal everyday type driving where you are not loaded down?

I've read about the stage 2 kit and the 50 hp and 112 ft/lbs. it gives you at 1900 rpm. Now that you have one, I'm really curious. How much of a difference did you notice with the stage 2 kit? and How many mpg did you pick up?
