Curious too what the differences could be....
ti is the same engine, is it not ?
I know when my egr wire was blown off and has been disconnected for a WHILE...
it still runs fine....
actually better than fine since I don't have to worry about the EBP sensor going out

I really do not know what would be different, however, reading the MPG post on this site and others since the 6.0L came out it appears the Excursions get better milage than similiar F-250's. This, if ture, could be the software programing. Ever since my engine started acting like it was broke in the milage has been 19.98 MPG for the last 23,000 miles. A lot of 250 guys would fight for that number.

Well... the milage thing could be many factors. The stock 'X is lower down ... so there may be some ground effects. The 'X also has one back plane ... so maybe it compares with a truck that has a cap ... but the aerodynamics of a pickup are different.
That all said, if the "tune" of the X is different and people with a "chip" see some milage benifit, then 'X owners should see less benifit? You'd expect that the mpg benifit would have to be in the pedal range for running down the highway... since the 'X is heavier ... there shouldn't be an potential for winning there.

Frustrating isn't it?
I've been reading this thread for quite some time now, and now that yourself and the rest have mention this, I'm confused.
The X weighs more than the F-250, yet somehow it does better on mileage. I think it's the whole therory that the X is an F-250 with a built on cap. Cut the "cap" off an Excursion, and just watch the mileage drop. Aerodynamics probably plays a role in this too. But then again, who really knows for sure?

Well Aerodyamics play a role in the highway fuel efficiency. Weight plays in the "city" efficiency ... since weight, once rolling, isn't really a factor.
So I'd expect the same city performance in a 250 ... maybe slightly better and I can explain (in my mind) why an 'X might get better highway milage.
I expect that a tune could aid in the highway milage since the engine is only running at a few percent of it's capacity ... there's probably a number of tweeks that could help. Something I was reading somewhere was that higher boost could provide more complete burn ... so efficiency would be higher. I don't see the program helping in city driving much as a certain amount of work is required to get the vehicle up to speed ... and that work is higher for the 'X.
The difference in mileage is due to the aerodynamics of the F-250 body compared to the Excursion body. The drag coefficient on the Excursion body is lower.
If F-250 owners put a net up in place of the tail gate, it will help the mileage.

I must need to disconnect the EGR because my X ALWAYS gets 1-2 mpg less than F250. F250 has a high cap. With cap removed the truck will get the same milage or 1 mpg better. Our X NEVER gets better milage than truck, EVER!
Best trip mileage on F250 going to SC is 21mpg @75mph, regularly MPG 17.5
Best trip mileage on X going to Fl is 19mpg @75mph, regularly MPG 16
Neither will go below 15, no matter how fast or how hard I drive em. until I'm towing, then will run 10.5 to 12 mpg. I'm told towing milage would increase if I'd slow down to 65, someday I'll check.
