Compatibility of Front Seats with -78/79
Hi All -
I have a 1979 F350 Supercab.
I've heard that the bolt holes for the front seats are the same all the way up to the 1996 model year. Is this true?
I'd like to put a newer style front seat in. Like one with a console (as part of the seat) in the middle, where it folds down from the back.
Has anyone got any experiance with this? On Ebay you see people with pictures of 78/79 trucks with the newer seats. The ones who have responded to my emails have either said it was that way when they bought it, or that it bolted right in.
What other improvements can be made to the seating? I presume that the seat would have to come out of a super cab to be able to fold forward enough to allow access to the back seat.
What about the rear seats? I have the long bench. Is that also swappable with a new truck?
Looking for any information that anyone is willing to share.
Thanks,
-Chris

Using the original seat mounts, you can bolt up a newer bench style (one piece bottom) up to '96. Keep in mind that a newer bench seat would need to come from a newer supercab so you have access to the rear. My '73 regular cab has a seat froma 91 regular cab and the seat doesn't tip very far forward - not enough for a supercab. Since you have a super cab, the bucket mounts from a 78-79 Bronco will bolt up (may need to drill a couple new hole) since the floor is contoured the same, and they will flip forward for access to the rear. Then you could get seats and console from a newer bronco and bolt them to the 78-79 mounts.
The newer 60/40 seats can be made to work but require some modifications to the mounts. Search this forum for seat swap, you will find LOTS of examples from past posts.

I have a 77 F-250 supercab that I put the 78/79 bronco brakets into with seats from a 91 ford minivan. It works great since the passenger side seat flips up for acess to the back. Gives a lot of room in the cab. I didn't put in a console because I like the room between the seats to set stuff and for my small kids to walk through when necessary. Only needed to drill a few holes for the brackets. Took me about an hour and a half to remove and install new seats. I love the bucket seating.

Rear seat on a Super Cab doesn't swap out like the front seat does?
Hi everyone!
I finally found a decent front seat out of a 95/96 F150 Supercab. I was able to also get the matching rear seat.
I have the front seat in and it was just as easy as everyone said. I also got the top portion of the back seat in without any problems.
However, today I spent some time cleaning up the lower seat mounting brackets and repainted them. When I went to put it in it's not even a close fit!
After getting out a tape measure... The metal bottom of the seat that flips over for a "shelf" is almost an inch narrower... The mounting holes in the bracket are farther apart in the newer seat, and the mounting bracket itself is much taller.
What do I do? Do I have to just put my older seat back in and have it re-upolstered when I get the front re-done? Or is there some "fix" to this problem?
The brackets on the lower portion of the rear seat bolt on, but the brackets on the newer lower portion are part of the seat bottom and do not come off.
The front was so easy, but the back appears to be a "no-go".
All suggestions welcome!
Thanks,
-Chris
