Aerostar wheels

Anyone have any luck fitting 15 inch tires/wheels under their Aerostar? I am thinking of putting a set of Ranger/Explorer aluminum rims on mine with 235/75 tires. Anyone try this? I know the bolt pattern is the same, but will I have clearance issues with the larger tires?

Aerostar wheels

The P235 75R15 tires will work on the rear, no problem. However, they are too tall for the front, when turning full chock, left or right. I have a friend who has stock 15" Explorer alloy wheels off of a '95 Explorer on his '96 burgandy Aerostar cargo van. Suggestion: Replace the P235 75R15 tires with a set of P225 70R15's The 225's are about the same height as a P215 75R15 tire, easily mount on the stock Explorer rims, and look great on an Aerostar, especially with RWL such as Dunlop's GT Qualifiers, Goodyear's Wingfoot radials (Note, avoid the Goodyears. Affordable price, stunning looks, but they are made with a soft rubber compound that wears quickly, even with a vehicle that is properly aligned and correct air pressure) BF Goodrich Radial TA's RWL, will wear much better. Anyway, hope this helps. The 225 70's fill out the Aerostar's wheelwells nicely, and still give the van a comfortable ride. The key is using a stock 15" wheel with little or no offset.

Aerostar wheels

Tire Rack (tirerack.com) has a nifty site where you can view different tire/wheel combinations on your specfic vehicle. Shows you how even a 16 or 17 inch wheel could work.
