Welding body panels

Not being the best welder, I used a lap joint. But before tacking the patches, I trimmed the recessed sections down to where there was less than 1/8" of surface for the patch to rest on. I also used weld thru primer and two types of sealer on the inside. FYI, I bought a $20 panel flanger from Harbor Freight (Central Pneumatic) and it worked great.

in my oppionion the butt weld is the best , the flange is ok IF you use weld thru primer and seal all the areas that can wick moisture . I have seen panels that have been replaced using a flange (sp late and tired) and rust was a problem between the two . so if there butt welded that cant happen.
