Question fuel tanks

I have a 99 f350 cc, srw,lwb with a 38 gallon tank and just purchased an 02 f350 cc, drw, 4x4,swb and it seems to have only a 25 gallon or so.
I would like to swap tanks before I sell my 99 so that I can get more miles per tank.
Are the tanks interchangeable and how much work will it require.?

I was getting about 780 miles /tank on the 99 and only get about 450 on the 02.I'm trying to go further with less fillups.....

Thanks
in advance...

The longbed tank won't fit in the shortbed trucks, sorry.

People like Transfer Flow make bigger replacement tanks you can swap in - I've got a 46-gallon Transfer Flow tank in my 2003 F250 CC shortbed.

are these aft of the rear axle or inside the frame rail driver side?

as long as the filler is in the right location ,you'll be fine.

Mine was a little under $700, plus installation. It's built like a tank.

If your fill tube is in the same pos as the swap tank ,your good to go .
Just change them. and use the the straps from each tank .Whats the big deal?
Unless your not describing something right(like a cross member in the way)

havn't looked that closely .the filler is on the same side and my guess would be same location on the tank, but cannot see the top of the tank,....

Thats why I am asking in here...To find out if they are innerchangeable between 99 and 02,also drw,sb-4x4 to srw,lb-2wd..

Like said before, I don't think youcan swap the long bed (38 gallon) tank in place of the short bed (28 gallon) tank. Look at a long bed and a short bed ord side-by-side. The filler is much closer to the rear wheel well on the short bed. If you were able to get the longer tank under there, the fill hose would run up under the cab and it would take forever to fill.
