Removing stereo in 04 f-150

I just bought a new deck and am curious how to get the stock deck out. ANy help from those who have done this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks Doug

Nothing too it. Just start prying off the faceplate. There are 6 locking fasteners, 3 on each side. You can get it with just your fingers, but a nylon tool, a butter knive, or any other flat tool would help.

You'll have to unclip the passenger airbag light wire at the top of the trim plate when you have it all about 1/2 removed. With the trim plate fully off, the 4 stereo mounting screws are exposed. Use a 7mm ratchet to take them out and the stock stereo then pulls right out. There is a huge amount of space in there, and it's a very easy area to work.

Unclip the wire harness and you are ready to replace with you new unit. I managed to remove and replace in about 1-1/2 hours.

btw - If you buy a wiring harness adapter for your new unit from Crutchfield, it comes with a couple of pages of removal instructions with photos to make it easier....

Wow, sounds pretty easy. Remember the old radios you needed to stick something in the 4 little holes and pry a certain direction to get them to unlock? What a pain! I remember trying to use 4 finishing nails with no luck. I managed to get one of the tools from a friend and still couldn't get it. Finally had to return the tool and managed to get the nails to work

Yea, you don't need much to do it. I just used my fingers to remove the trim and the 7mm socket wrench. No other tools. There is so much room in there that running new wires for Sirius / XM or amps and stuff like that is pretty easy too.
