In my Escape the engine coolant light comes on & off. Any clue why? I looked at the bottle under the hood & it showed it was at the full mark. Do I need to flush? I'm a female, so how is this done? Can it be done w/o having to take to the shop? Is it like flushing a radiator?
Is it under warranty? It could be a sensor and it may have set a code. If its not under warranty then you can stop by an Autozone parts store and they can check the codes. for you.
No flush needed, Its' the low coolant sensor in the coolant jug and you need to replace the coolant jug, because that's the only way you can get the sensor!!! I have replace a lot of there for this reason. hope this helps!
I'm not sure on the cost of the jug, All the ones I did was under warranty!! and to replace you need drain the radiator down until the jug is emty (about gal) remove the two bolts that hold the jug to the inner fender and remove hose clamps and refill jug with coolant 50/50 mix and unplug wire from sensor!! about 15min to 1/2 hr
A new one at the dealer runs about $70, it takes very little skill and about 5 or 10 minutes to change out.
I got lucky and found a new one on E-Bay for $25 + $10 s&h.
