Question Orderer new 2005 - 4.10 or 3.73 rear end??

I'm orderering a new 6.0 with auto trans - should I get the 4.10 rear end or go with the 3.73. I plan on doing about 1/4 of the time towning - boat in summer, snowmobile trailer in winter.

I know the 4.10 will give me much better pulling power, but am I going to notice a big mileage drop for all those times I'm not pulling anything??? I currently have a V10 with 3.73 and that was a big mistake - can't tow anything, but the new 6.0 with Torqshift has so much more power can I get away with the 3.73 towing???

Thanks all you PSD owners!! Ready to become one!!

If you're gettin a PSD, the only way you're gettin anything beside the 3.73 is with a dually. The 3.73 is plenty with the 6.0. I have the 7.3 with 3.73 and I have zero problems pulling.

Actually no - just talked with my dealer yesterday - ford changed the options, you can now order a 4.10 rear end on PSD with F350 SRW (single rear wheel)..

I thought the same thing up until yesterday when we went thru the ordering options..

Get the 4.10, that's why they opened up the option. Way too many people wanting just a little lower gear.

But, that could have been the heat coming from the 4WD owners.

thats cool, i think its a good move on fords part to offer that. i would go with the 4.10's as well ( i,m all about more power) especially if you plan on putting on a little bigger tires down the road.

Great!! I do plan on going slightly larger then the stock tires so I think I will go with the 4.10's....4.10 and a Predator will definately allow me to drag race and smoke rice burners while towing 10,000 lbs!!!!!!!!! Man, I can't wait!!!

Will have to change from superv10 to superPSD.!

Just leave it. You'll have that V10 look about you. You might need it in a pinch...

PSD in a SRW 4x4 with 4.10 gears... Man that sounds like a great combo! Glad Ford finally saw the light .

superv10: it sounds like you're set on the 4.10....but wanted to let those that care....we've been hauling a three-horse slant trailer up and down the Va. mountains to Tenn. with plenty of power. We have the 3.73 in our '02 because the truck spends most of its hours not pulling and we wanted the benefit of better mileage. From what we hear....we'll be doing even better when our '05 arrives. It didn't tow bad when I had stock tires on it - fuel mileage was horrendus (sp?) 7mpg... But now that I have "normal" size tires on a big Ford truck (265x75R16's are for wimpy chevy tahoes...) towing above 65 requires my foot being shoved thru the firewall... Of course, I'm out here in the west and we tow toys at high elevations - sometimes over 8,000 ft - which makes a difference...

You ain't kiddin! If my truck had 4.10's right now, I wouldn't even be worrying about regearing the dang thing...

Guess it's gettin closer to time to trade in...

I would go with the 4.10s or 4.30s I have a 04 cc with the 5.4 6 speed with 4.10s and I love it. When I go to bigger tires I wont have to regear.

With 4.10's do you think you're gonna go up a 6% grade in high gear with tall tires? Dream on! That's what they have gears in the transmission for.
