Question I'd like to wire my portable Sirius to OEM stereo

Does anyone know if there are additional imputs I could use at the back of the OEM premium stereo?

What I am looking for is a way to wire a portable Sirius radio into the amp of the premium AM-FM Cassette/CD unit in a 2004 F250 SD Lariet? The unit that I have transmits over an FM frequency that is tuned in with less than ideal results (high frequency noise). If I'm not mistaken, the unit is supposed to be CD changer ready. My other option is to replace the unit completely with an aftermarket stereo. I haven't had any luck getting the unit to come loose using the release tools.

Usually stock stereos don't have the Aux RCA in's you would need. I believe the cd changer may be proprietary with a special plug end.
Other than the FM modulator that you are using...I think the only other option is to replace the stock unit.

Bonofied,
What kind of sirius unit do you have. I can get a heck of a deal on a plug and play unit to run through my factory unit. I wanna know if it is worth it! or the same unit so I know what to steer away from. Thank you

Well first off if you are getting a lot of high freq noise through your fm modulator, most likely you have a defective signal replicator. That's basically the guts of the FM modulator. Exchange the modulator for another and try it. More over, usually you can select from a couple channels you want to broadcast on, try another channel, you might be picking up interference. Also depending on the condition of your altenator sp??. While you have a new truck, that does not mean you have a properly functioning altenator. Aftermarket products are extremely sensitive to any decibel level. Not to exlcude altenator whine. Does the noise fluxuate with the amount of throttle?? If it does, you are picking up altenator whine. Have the dealer change out your altenator under warranty. The cause of this can be a bad spooling. Also since you don't have the in-dash 6, you most like have ch-changer controls that work with a ford changer plug. Now, there are several companies that offer a harness to allow audio input from that changer plug on your factory radio. If you would like to do some searching yourself, try these companies.. Soundgate, AMI, Excel, and I can't remember some others. Keep us posted, let me know if there is anything else I can do..

Best of Luck,
Corey

Mine is the Brix Streamer. The unit snaps into a cradle in the truck and generally works well with the exception of the problem described and for some reason it doesn't get much signal from the satellite in the Las Vegas valley. Once we are out of town the unit works great. It's nice to be able to snap it out and use it at the cabin in the woods.

Thanks Corey,

I'll look into those suppliers. The noise is such high frequency that I doubt Ford would consider it worth covering but just what I would expect from a system that transmits tha signal to my tuner rather than directly to the amplifier. I had the exact same problem on my T-bird when I hooked up a CD changer that worked the same way.

I have the Audiovox Sirius system. Used a PIE adaptor and connected my Sirius up directly to the back of my factory 6-disc system. Works great, no more FM modulator. I click on the cd button twice and it comes up with DJ.

If you go this route, make sure to handle the cd player gently, I have to take mine apart now to unstick the cds.

sy5, what year truck do you have? This seems to be a problem with the '04 multi disc CD's, not '03 or earlier models. I hope you have a solution, I have the same issue with my XM unit.

Light loaded so run D series tires for smooth ride and good handling.

sys5,
Could you please tell me what a PIE adapter is? I'm interested in doing what your saying, but can't figure out what it is for the life of me. Thank you.

A PIE adapter plugs into the rear of the stock system. Its a plug and play, gives you a left and right RCA input. Then you just plug in your XM/Sirius to it and click on the cd button twice to bring up DJ mode. Here is the place I got mine.

Some of the 04s were having problems with it, but I'll have to see if I can remember how they were fixing it.

Thanks,

Looking at the link you provided, it looks like a FRDN-AUX is just the ticket. I really appreciate your assistance.

Let us know how this works out if you get one. I also have a 2004 6 disk in-dash that I was hoping to get auxillary input working with.

Looking at their chart, it stops at the 2003 model Excursions. That is the same trouble I have been having finding an adaptor for my 2004 in-dash; they are different!

If you have a 20 pin connector on the back of your 6 disc cd player (the PIE #FRDN-AUX) should work. The 2003 and 2004 players have the 20 pin connector and it has been working. Unfortunately there isn't a 100% guarantee though.
