This is the Aerostar forum, which is quite different from the Econoline vans. You will get better information from one of the F-150 forums.

Your van has the 300 CID inline 6 engine. The big aluminum structure on top of the engine is the upper intake manifold for the fuel injection system. (I didn't realize Ford used EFI on such an early van.)

The other thing is, if the seller put down in writing that the van had a v8, but it actually has an I6, you have a legal issue you can take up with him. But if he just verbally told you, and you took his word without visually verifying, you're kind of out of luck.

CFI - central fuel injection. Early fuel injection. But in 85 EFI was introduced. I had Aerostar with early EEC-IV.

As I know with 4.9 six in line they used carburator and EFI

early EFI got no MAF. They used MAP - manyfold absolute pressure to calculate engine load (LOL, no calculation, they used pre calculated maps)

No DIS, simle distributor, but... electronic spark advance

There was only one HEGO sensor

No digital dashboard. So additional ECT was used. For dash only...

Well, it is really old school fuel injection.

My 1987 Mustang came with a similar EFI setup for the 5.0; SD (MAP) system used to estimate air intake, but 1 HEGO sensor in each side of exhaust H pipe. Still works quite well after 26 years; starts right up, idles smoothly, lots of power, can manage 20+ mpg if I'm careful, and pass the biannual smog check by huge margins.
