i replaced the gpr with a gpr109 from napa. i have a picture in my gallery of the original gpr i took out. its the same thing, i know what your talking about with the controller cause my brothers 00 has it (its a silver box in the same location right?). anyways check out that picture cause thats what i pulled out and replaced it with and there was a black braket that i couldnt reattach, cause i had to rotate the gpr 90 degrees. let me know what you think.
Did you put a relay or a module in it? California emmisions trucks dont have GPR's they have a GPCM (Glow Plug Control Module)
Is that right Alan? I thought they had the same system with the additional module for CARB purposes. Perhaps I am wrong??? I don't see that module carrying that kindof voltage. I thought it simply commanded the GPs on longer for emissions purposes via the GPR.

i can get more pics if that will help, i can also get pics of my brothers truck if your interested in seeing the silver box or module im talking about.
Hey John,
My ses light came on and the truck started running rough right away. I pulled over and plugged in my superchips tuner and it pulled a P1316 code. I tried clearing the code and restart...but it came right back. I also noticed that when I got into the upper RPM's, especially 2nd and 3rd; the ses light would go out and the truck would start running good until the upshifted.
I gotta admit though...I did go by a buddies shop and have him scan it so I knew which cylinder was misfiring. I wanted to make sure the IDM wasn't toasted...Found the # 8 injector not working. Pulled the VC and just went ahed and replaced the harness and it ran great..code cleared and put it back together.
I'm still really new to diesel technology...hope it helps!

Not necessary man. Just tell me if the module equipped truck also has a GPR before I have to get stuck digging in that shop manual DVD. I always get stuck searching because I see something else I want to read up on. Too much info is sometimes a bad thing.

The Glow Plug Monitor Self Test (California only) is a functional test of the glow plug system performed on demand with the engine running and the A/C off. The PCM will activate the glow plug relay and monitor the glow plug circuits. A fault must be present at the time of testing for the test to detect a fault. If one bank is reading less than 39 amps, a fault will be detected and a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) will be output on the scan tool. If a fault code is set, it is a hard fault.
PM me your email address and let me send you the test.
It looks like the 99's GP's are monitored by the PCM but the GPCM didnt start untill late 2000. I think it may have something to do with that Shunt that is still on your old relay
Well, I've not found exactly what I was looking for but the shunt that I did see thus far was for wiring the left and right bank of the GPs seperately to the GPR.

its hard to me to see that this shunt is the reason for the codes, becasue all the wires connected to this shunt would be the same as all the wires being connected to the post that only gets power when the key is in the on position.
It looks just like a solid piece of metal to me but it was specifically identified in the pdf i sent.
On another thought could the GP109 just not be capable of providing 39 amps. I know smokin tore one apart a couple of days ago and comented on how flimsy it looked inside compared to an OEM.
