1995 Gas gauge issues

I ran my new (to me) truck down into the red zone on the gas gauge just to see how far I could go, but when I filled it up (single rear tank) it still only took 10.9 gallons. I only got about 180 miles on the tank.

But after filling it the gas gauge only shows about 3/4 full. So it appears my gauge reads 1/4 tank low. Is there any way to adjust this? It's not much fun driving in the red zone.

Well, a couple options.

Buy a gas gan, fill it up, and throw it in the back. Set the trip odometer to zero, and drive it until it dies. That's how far you can go.

Or you can drop the tank and replace the sending unit.

Yeah that's what I was going to do, I'd like to see just how far I can go before running out!

Of course then I have the issue of sucking up all the rust & junk from the bottom of the tank.

So nobody knows of any way to adjust the gauge range?
