Upgrades & the CEL

Does anyone know if by putting in a mild cam and larger intake and exhaust valves if the CEL will come on.
And if so, is there any way to get the light to go off.(without pulling the bulb)
Will I need a chip of some kind if the light does come on?
Any suggestions or someone who's maybe done this upgrade will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance.

Darn Good Question !

Is this about a Ranger?
There's lots of guys on the Ranger board that have done serious mods to their trucks. Put up a post there & see what kind of answers you get.

If you get semi-radical on the internal mods, heck, I strongly suggest you get the specs to those changes and send the computer to someone like superchips and get the ecu reburned to help the engine run right. You should get by if you don't drop in some lopey strip-only cam, but seek professional (not necessarily ours) vendor type advice with your specific purchase.

I'm sorry! How stupid of me to forget that info! It is a 95 Ranger w/2.3 4 banger and 5 speed manual. I love this truck and have done upgrades such as lift, gear change, K&N, bigger tires & wheels. I'm just looking to get more power out of the motor but still keep it reliable, you know?
Thank you for the responses.

A larger cam probably won't trigger a CEL, unless the truck can't control the fuel and spark correctly as a result, but it probably won't run properly either without a larger mass air meter or a computer recalibration. There are outfits out there that have mass air meters that are recalibrated for higher flow cams and other upgrades to save you the time of having a custom chip made.
