Hello Ya'll. As you can tell I'm new to this forum. I have a 1956 F100. It's a project for my 13 year old son and myself. In all my truck magazines it's the only body style that he ever talked about. Just got lucky that a friend of mine had a guy stop at his house and try to buy a Mustang that he had. The guy told my buddy that he had this truck, we went and looked at it and bought it. Needless to say my son is one very happy camper. It has the original Y block in it with the the oil bath air cleaner still on it. And I do hope that from time to time that I can post a stupid question here and have it answered.

You're the one that drives the 56 F100? Is it the red one? I think I've seen it.

55,
please pardon fenders... sometimes he refuses to take his meds. He thinks cause HE has a red truck that EVERYBODY has a red truck... he'll be ok... Wapner comes on at 4:30

Welcome to the forum... as for your request to ask stupid questions... sorry we've used up all the stupid questions, you're just gonna have to come up with something smart and original.

Seriously join in and ask away, we're all in different stages of construction and have different levels of expertise. currently I'm at semi-lucent rookie but working on my wrench recognition merit badge. Please don't be offended by a little harmless ribbing and joking around, and some well intentioned advise. These guys will not steer you wrong and in spite of yourself will help you. Well, in my case they tried but I ducked and the logic missed me several times..

Check out the tech articles section and lots of questions can be answered by using the search option looking for keywords... like "brakes" "shifters" "windshields" etc...

again welcome and join in the group, you won't be sorry... especially if we can keep fenders medicated...

later
John (too cool for meds)

56, welcome to the forum. Ask away on the questions, because someone here will have an answer for you. Usually they are right, although I know I screw up on occasion. Also, most of us have asked a lot of stupid questions. Thats how you learn. Congratulations on the new toy.

Another welcome! This site is my number one resource and I think you'll enjoy it.

No matter what you're doing with your project there's bound to be somebody around here has done it before and is willing to help. Unlike many other restoration forums, there's far more good information around here than egos.

What are you planning for your truck?

Welcome to FTE
I won't be mcuh help on a new vehicle like yours as I prefer the Classic Style, however, you can rest assured that I am "An Equal Opportunity Harrasser" and I will join in when possible.

Thanks everyone for the welcome. F250 Rob at present I probably will leave the Y Block and 3 speed in it. It runs good, pretty much all original. The guy I bought it from said his Grandfather bought it new in '56. My son and I have rebuilt the brakes, cleaned the gas tank and replaced the fuel pump. By the way does anyone know where to find a replacement gas tank? This one is slightly rusty up top. Again thanks for the welcome! Kevin

Kevin,

Welcome aboard. A slightly rusty gas tank is not big deal...as long as there are no holes in it. Just clean it off with a wire brush and paint it with POR-15 and it will look new again. Good luck with the 56...

Make sure you have a fuel filter in line and check for orange pieces of clay (Really they're rust) in the filter. If you're not getting that and are only referring to the outside, then you are in much better shape than most new effie owners. Welcome aboard and Good luck, John

PS: We like lots of pix!!

Double PS: People on this site will treat you the way you treat them. If you are nice, then people will bend over backwards to help you. If you are crabby, anti-social, and snobby, then your experience will not be nearly as pleasant

Hey 56! - Welcome to the frey.
As to stupid questions, John is correct, we've used all of them up. However, there is a serious supply of unused stupid answers still available.

Put a new coat of paint on it, straight pipe the y-block and throw some 18's on with big and little rubber and all the kids will love your son

Make sure he has no friends, no girl, doesn't play sports and make him read classic truck magazine's till he's nuts.... It worked for me.

I will warn you, once he gets excited about the project, the money dissappears fast, just ask my dad! I welcome you both to FTE(get him reading the site too...) -4speed
