I just installed a NAPA air filter part # 6637 on my '99 PSD. It required that I remove the stock filter housing to get it to fit. BIG filter. The rubber air boot that went to the stock filter housing fit right over the flange on the new air filter. It was a bit of a stretch getting it on, but in the end it was a perfect fit.

Somewhere on this site I found the part numbers for replacing the Donaldson # B058011 that came with my Tymar setup. Napa # FIL6637, Baldwin # PA2818, Carquest # 88637. Sounds like you put together a similar setup.
KOD may have done just that. Friend of mine with a '99 cummins saw my Tymar, took the filter off and slipped his intake hose over the filter flange and tried it out. Liked it so he bought one and is still running that way. I think the Tymar setup supplys an intake pipe to smooth out the airflow instead of using the factory connections.
Kwik, is your PSD a pre '99? I have been thinking about doing the same thing with my next air filter change, mine is a pre '99. If the only thing I would have to do is take the box out and put the new filter in, that would make things a hole lot easier.
yeah if that will work i think i would just do the same thing pull the factory box and clamp up the new filter. that is assuming they make one that will fit the 97. thanks for the ideas

I did the same to my truck as kwik but I didn't like the fit so I went to the hardware store and bought a 3" (I think) abs coupler and a big hose clamp and slid it into both the filter and the intake it seemed to be a better fit and only takes up about an extra 1/4" of space. One other thing, don't just drop the filter in to the space where your old one sits make sure that you put it down on an angle like in kwikordeads picture if you don't your hood won't close right
Mine is a 99.5 with the 4" rubber hose. I got it to fit with a bit of a stretch. And a bigger hose clamp, the factory clamp just wouldn't reach anymore. I had to get two hose clamps and open both of them up and join them end to end to make one very large clamp. And trim off the rubber guides that hold the factory clamp in place. I believe the earlier trucks have a smaller hose that must be adapted out to fit that very LARGE filter.

If the filter won't fit in the stock tube (mine didn't either), just get a piece of 4" exhaust tubing (or aluminum, PVC, whatever, so long as it's 4" OD) about 5" long and one more clamp to mate the two together.

I was curious so I had to try it, and sure enough, it fit. Also the stock clamp fit as well. Few minutes of cursing to wedge it on, but looking at how tight it fits, it sure won't leak.
BTW, mine is an '02 with a 4" intake hose.
