Can you add a factory sub where none was?
I got my hands on a factory sub and amp for my 99 Explorer XLT but after pulling the back panel to install it, I found no wires to hook it up. I figured the control unit for the stereo was back there like my wife's 96 Limited Explorer... guess again. I haven't pulled the head unit yet... Does anyone know how hard it will be to hook up this sub, if it is even possible, and does anyone sell the wires and plugs? Should I just start sifting through the local junkyards for the wiring?
thanks,
Dave

Does the explorer have factory premium sound? if not, your out of luck. It would require a headunit change, wiring all the way back to the amp, and removal of many, many panels to do it. However, the factory amp will accept rca inputs, so you could probally take a line level converter and then go back to rca, if you knew which wires where which on the amp. LOL.

The amp only has one plug in with 4 or 5 prongs that I assume are a mono input and power for the amp... I guess I was hoping in Henry Ford's memory they built and wired them all the same and jsut plugged in the components they wanted... my wife;s 96 limited has an extra plug parallel to the sub plug that isn't hooked up to anything and never was...
