Noticed water leak at rear window a couple days ago. Took it to the dealer today, and was out of there in about 45 minutes with a new hi-mount brake light. Was a warranty repair.

I received an e-mail from a friend who is currently looking after my truck while I am deployed and he gave me the bad news of a leak in the cab near the 3rd brake light. Thanks to this site and the input from different owners I know that this happens to many more owners than I would ever guess. Thanks again for your input.

Does this apply to only 2004 models or 2004-2006 models? My father and I both have 2005 models (his with 3000 miles and mine with 2000 miles) and ours does not leak yet. (knock on wood)

Mine about to go in for the leak, under extended warranty. Just started this weekend while on a trip to Arkansas, with 53,000 miles on the truck. The water was pretty much pouring in.

Had the same problem on my '04 back in September. It cam from the brake light cover. I just took it off, and replaced the seal that had rotted away. No problems (knock on wood) since.

Two phillips head screws, pull it out and have a look. Should be easy to see if it's be leaking. There isn't much of a gasket there, more like some felt stuck to the brake light. If you see signs of moisture then replace or use some silicone. Thin bead all the way around does the trick.
Because of the way the head liner is on these trucks water can get in here and run to many different places. Down around the window and into the back seat or floor mats while the head liner looks dry. Good luck.

Go to the top menu bar and click the Recalls/TSBs button. Then select the Full Text TSBs choice. Pick your model year from the next menu, then look for TSBs relating to water leaks. I think I saw one for the A-pillar which may be the problem you are seeing.

Good luck,

My rear window leaked at 17,000 miles and was covered under warranty. But I am not happy with my Ford at all.
Have had 3 window motor assy replaced, rotors replaced 9,000 miles
spark plugs replaced at 20,000 miles and now at 77,000 miles and
tires replaced in front 4 times but alignment is fine.

Cargo light leak on 2008 F150

I bought a 2008 F150 in July in Indiana and drove it home (to Alaska) with a canoe on top. I went through some pretty good rain storms on the drive up and now I know that the canoe over the top of the topper and truck cab probably kept the light gasket from leaking. It warmed up here a bit lately and I went through the automatic car wash today. I heard some dripping and looked back to find water dripping from the top of the rear slider window. Must be the cargo light/3rd brake light gasket.

Does anyone have know where I can buy a better gasket than the OEM? Recon?

I'd like to fix this myself, Sounds like the Ford Service guys fix the leak with the same OEM gasket and I don't want to havea to go through this again.

Thanks
