Exclamation Tie-Rod Notice From Ford

Has anyone else recieved a notice about checking your tie-rods from Ford? I recieved one on my 2002 F-150 in the mail yesterday. Not for sure if they are just giving information on the proper way to check them or if they are saying they need to be checked. Has there been a problem with these on the Ford Pickups?

My left front one is making a heck of a clunk when reversing and turning left or right. There have been a couple of stories on here of totaled trucks from flipping due to tie rod end failure. I'm not the first owner, so I guess I wouldn't get a notice.

If you bought the used truck from a ford dealer you should get the notice. I bought mine from a chevy lot and got the notice, but they probably traced it through my extended warranty that I purchased.

While I was having repairs done at my local Ford dealer, I asked about the notice. The service tech told me that it was sent out because some folks don't know how to check these. If you take your truck to the Ford dealer for repairs, its not an issue, because they already know how to check them. If you take your truck to any other repair shop, they may or may not know how to check them. So, he said that that notice is primarily for you to show non-Ford repair shops when you use their services.

Thank everyone, I am glad that I was not the only one who got the notice and was a little confused.

I also got one yesterday. I take it Ford got these parts from the lowest bidder and now have a problem with them. A guy at work had to replace the tie rods in his 98 F-150 when it was only 3 years old at 28,000mi. I thought he just had bad luck or drove it too hard. Then I started hearing of more trucks with the same problem and now I get this letter. The way this letter is worded, sounds like they are trying to weasel out of any responsibility.
Hope I don't have any problems. So far my 02 has been the best vehicle I have ever owned.

Ford must have started using better tie rods on the 03 and 04 Heritage.

You think they'd learn. '86 Ranger and mid 80's Econolines had issues.

Is there anyone that can e-mail me a scanned copy of this letter. Since I bought my 99 F150 from a private party I don't know if I'll get one from Ford.

Thanks,
Dave

Run a search on this issue. I wrote down everything that was on the notice.

does everyone who owns a F-150 get a notice. I got 8500 miles on my 03 and I had ball joints replaced already. They should be giving notices out about that.
