Sound system for my 1992 F150 XLT
hello,
I have a 1992 ford f150 XLT and it has the stock sound sytem in it which has been used very minimully. I just bought a sony 10 disc changer that operates off a radio frequency. I purchased that because its universal so now i would like to add some sub woofers and i was wondering if i need an amp and if i do which one should i use? will any amp work in any truck? will i need to replace all the speakers in my truck? and what is a good brand of sub woofers?
thanx for your time
Bryan

an amp is an amp. It will work in any car or whatever you decide to put it in. Easiest thing would probably be to get a new headunit, a sony so you can just plug the cd changer right in and then run RCA cables from the places on the back to the amplifier. The new head unit will also make you stock speakers sound better too. Is it extended cab or single?
also how familiar are you with hooking up stereos?

like drew said, a new headunit is the way to go. u dont have to replace the stock speakers, but if you're gonna have LOUD bass, then you might wanna get some bass blockers (they're real cheap like $4) for the stock speakers. As for brand of subwoofer, it depends how much you are willing to spend.

so you dont think the amp will plug into my factory head unit? and are there any alternate ways to make the amp work without hooking it up directly to the head unit? as for hooking up steareos i'm a total newb but my dad knows what hes doin for the most part

the thing is, you can hook it up to the factory but you will have to splice off one of the speaker wires. And unless its something really special, that i havn't heard about then you current headunit dosn't have RCS jacks in the back. You will get better quality and sound from a new headunit and RCAs then you will from just hookin the amp up to the speaker wire.
where you from frooloo?

Sony everything works out pretty good for beginners. Beware, a good system will cost you 800 bucks, and a couple hours of your time.
If you stick with say... 2 10inch subs, the enclosure (box) for the 10's, a 750watt amp, new cd/mp3 playing head unit, and the wiring to go with it, you could get away with spending a little over 400 bucks probably. If you do this however, get those bass blockers GreenF150 was talking about, you only have so much space in a pickup truck.
Anyway, get the new headunit no matter what, if you want subs that is. Can't have bass without subs, can't have subs without an amp, and can't have much of an amp without a new headunit, it's as simple as that. Most of us here arn't made of $, you might be more fortunate. Best of luck to ya.

well i'm from wyoming i'm 15 so not made of money and would prefer not to have to buy a new headunit and just splice into the speaker wire so would i need to have 2 amps if i want to run 2 10" subs(do you think 2 will be to much?) and the 4 stock speakers or do I not need an amp for the stock speakers?

All you "need" is a little 8inch sub, and u'll have plenty of bass. But your a young kid like myself, and we like LOTS of bass. My buddy bit the bullet when it came to cash, and got himself some Lighting Audio 10's and a 500 watt amp just for his subs, along w/ new 6x8's in the back and the little small tweeter's in the doors. You NEED a new headunit if you want subs, the amp aux's are a MUST for most amps. The "remote" feature is also a nice little bonus.
Right on Cruisematic, lol your speakers arn't neccesarliy bad, especially for what your using them for. If your just going to do that, you may as well not get new speakers, I don't belive it would make much of a difference at all, unless you installed them facing outward behind your truck, lol
