LAST EDITED ON 04-Oct-00 AT 02:58 PM (EST)[p]I plan on getting a new paint job done it is now two tone with black on top and gray on bottom I was wondering if a newer body style explorer front clip would fit? I haven't researched the topic and the body lines do look the same.
I would also like to lower the explorer and beef up the suspension for a better ride and improved handling and would like some ideas and maybe some pics of some lowered early 90 explorers.

You do know that the Explorer is not a car, it is a truck and personally i think a truck should be lifted to make it more functional. Lowering it will defeat the purpose of why it is a truck. If you want to lower something, buy a 5.0 Litre Mustang and drop that, you will not get the handling characteristics out of a truck like you would with a car.

That is your opinion and I respect that.
Here is my opinion:
My explorer is 2-wheel drive lifting it up putting mud grips on it would make it a wannabe
4 wheel drive and would not improve the handling, which is what I'm looking for. I would have a higher center of gravity, loud tire noise, and faster tire wear because I drive 99% of the time on hard road surfaces.
By lowering the truck I get a lower center of gravity which decreases the chance of the explorer rolling over. With the addition of new sway bars, poly bushing, and performance shocks I get improved handling and ride comfort. I could go one step further and add air bag suspension on the rear for even better ride and tire clearance if I ever need to pull a trailer because my payload capability will not be sacrificed because I will still have the same rear springs.
