Does anyone know how to access a technical service bulletin? I found my problem on the NHTSA's web site and now I would like to know how to fix it. I love my truck but this stalling problem has got to go. It only happens when the engine is cold and sometimes I can catch it before it fully stalls. The tsb's are as follows:

Summary: 96 EXPLORER 4.0L MANUAL TRANSMISSION WILL STALL WITHOUT A CODE, 95-96 RANGER
4.0L MANUAL TRANSMISSION, WILL STALL AND CODE P1506 WILL BE PRESENT.

Service Bulletin Number: 98610
Bulletin Sequence Number: 134
Date of Bulletin: 9803
NHTSA Item Number: SB601321
Make: FORD TRUCK
Model: EXPLORER
Year: 1996
Component: FUEL:THROTTLE LINKAGES AND CONTROL

Any help that you could provide would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much. -Ted

You might want to post your message on www.4x4central.com They dedicated to explorer and the odds are that someone there might be able to help you. I have a 96' 4.0L V6 4x4 explorer and I a problem with the engine stalling too. If you find out how to fix this, please post your results. Sorry I could not be of any more help.

Good luck,

Drew

Ted ,
Simply take the info you have to your local Ford dealer and ask either a competent tech or a service person what the resolution to the TSB's are for Explorer . They simply type the info into their OASIS System and the info will be presented to you . At that point either they can repair the problem , if its a recall they will fix it at no cost to you . If its a TSB they will fix it , perhaps if you discuss the problem with the service manager and ask if Ford will split the cost of repairs and parts with you esp if this has been an ongoing problem that you and your local Ford dealer have dealt with before .

Ted,
This problem could be tied in with the intake mainfold gasket and the cam tenioners. There currently is a recall on the 4.0 SOHC. The recall was sent out on the 27th of Nov. Call you local dealer or call the Ford hotline and have your VIN # ready. They will tell you if your vehicle is involved in the recall.
Good luck

Viper
