driveshaft angle?

How much downard angle from the tranny to the rear end is acceptable? Since the only way to alter this is to lower the trans and change the angle at which the engine is setting is this something I shoud be concerned about? It just seems a little too much (351W to an aod ) Thanks for any comments

1-3* is minimum. You need some off-set so the u-joints get lubed. If I remember right 5-6* is normal. U-joints fail very rapidly at 13*

How much are you talking about? You've got a bit of range to work with.

Just make sure the pinion is "opposite but equal" so the crank and pinion are parallel.

I think there's a tech post over on the right side of the page regarding driveline setups.

Correcting drive shaft angles can be done by using angled shims between the axle and spring. So you don't have to move the engine or tranny. Follow the instructions in the above posts link and install the apropriate shim.

thanks guys, I was noticing the angle when I removed the old engine (302) but I will have to wait a little while until the new engine is in place to be more specific about what the angle is. I'll let you know , thanks

Definitely use a magnetic angle guage from the local Home Depot or equivalent. Even the $5 model will suffice. It might just be me, but I find that 3 degrees looks a lot more like double that. Measure it before you get too worried.
