351m to 460 swap
i know this will most likely get moved somewhere else but here goes any way
i have a 77 f150 ,351m/c-6
i have an deal going with a guy to trade a 302/aod combo for a low milage 460. i am going to trade him but i wanted to know if there will be any immediate problems doing the swap, like motor mounts, electrical etc.....from what i have read the 2 motors have the same bolt pattern on the trans.is this correct?anyone do this before?
any input would be helpful. oh yea the 460 is coming out of a 78 f150. thanks in advance

Here read this, It should clear up most of your questions:

If your donor is coming from a 78 460, just make sure you get ALL the extra parts you will need, The factory 460 trucks are not a dime a dozen in the junkyard.

[QUOTE=ranger429], possibly a different torque converterQUOTE]
Ranger 429,
Why would you need a differnet torque converter out of curiosity?
B/C I have mid 80's 460 that was a manual, but I got the correct flexplate for it. That engine is going into a '77 F250 with a 351M and a C6? Will I be able to reuse the same converter in it?

It all depend's on the hub pilot dimension. There are 3 different size's, maybe only two for the later model motor's. I believe the three size's are 1 1/4", 1 3/8" and 1 1/2". Check the hub pilot on the crank to the exisiting converter and you will know. When I did my conversion I had to by a new converter . I think the early model big block's had the small hub pilot.

the early 460s had the big hub, the 400s/351m's all have a smaller hub. the best bet is go to your local parts store, and get part numbers for each application. if they are the same, you are golden, if not, get the 460 converter. you will need to extract the pilot bushing from the manual trans 460.
is the truck a 4x4 or 2wd? if its a 2wd, then just get the mounts from the donor truck. manifolds and exhaust system. if its a 4x4, you will need adaptor mounts and exhaust system.
Good luck
