Automatic Brake Adjusters - 55 f-100
Hi Guys,
Back again with more questions. I needed a brake job on my truck & while at the parts house I noticed that the brake shoes for the truck were the same from about 1953 to 1967. Sooooooo I got to thinking that they had autobrake adjusters in the mid 60's & that they ought to fit. So I bought a '66 autobrake adjust rebuild kit & installed it this evening. The directions stated that the adjuster was to be installed on the secondary (rear) shoe, which I did. When I tested it by moving the cable, the star adjuster moved. Big Yaaaaaayyyy. The only thing that I can see that isn't Ok is that the old adjuster's access hole is lined up on the forward shoe. Since the new adjuster is on the back shoe, I can't adjust it with a spoon. Is this other people's experience also? I don't think that I installed it backwards, just figure that they must have moved the adjuster hole in later years. Does this sound about right?
I plan on buying 1 more kit & doing the other rear brake tomorrow, followed by a test drive.
What do you think? Thanks in advance for your time & thoughts.
Regards,
Jon

I'd suggest just drilling/filing new holes in the backing plate to line up with adjuster position and get rubber plugs for them all when you're done. There's also the possiblity that swapping backing plates from side to side would put the hole in the right spot if everything else will line up right to do this.
