Replaced OEM jack with floor jack?

Have any of you replaced your OEM jack with a floor jack?

I bought my truck used, and it didn't have a jack with it. Any brands to stay away from? How much of a jack do I need?

a pretty hefty one to pick up that diesel front end. A nice 6 ton bottle jack shoudl do the truck, and you can get them at walmart or the likes in a plastic carry case for pretty cheap. i would make/carry something to put it on in case the ground is soft, like a larger metal plate or a board.

I bought a 6-ton bottle jack myself. A lot easier to lift the truck than an OEM jack. Something to put on the floor incase the ground is soft is a good idea, but thats no matter what jack u use.

yea. I had that problem with my bronco and the stupid ford jack. unless you were on good solid asphalt or concrete, it would push it right through, and that wasnt with the weight of a diesel like this case.

I have a base for my hi-lift jack that works great. Not sure of the load it can handle with that diesel though (i have the v10 and it holds up fine). It's made by hi-lift, just an idea.

So true. I rotated tires on a warmish afternoon. Jack stands sunk into my driveway up to the struts on the feet. And the floor jack wheels left quite a mark too. Duh!
