Question Roof Removal

I want to exchange roofs on two 1956 f-100's. I have an excellent roof on a bad cab and a bad roof on a good cab. How do I remove the roof panel. Is is spot welded? Can I cut it off? Can I weld it back on?

Have you considered cutting the pillars and swapping the tops as a complete unit? It might be easier.

I went with the roof skin approach since I wasn't very confident that I could preserve the proper door and window openings after hopping them. Depends on how good your bodywork skills are. It was a very time consuming process. It took a lot longer to get the skin fitted to the new cab than I thought it would. It wasn't a perfect fit but it's as good as other original cabs I have seen so I quite worrying about it.

Good luck!

Metal or Fiberglass

Was your skin metal or glass. Where did you get it?

I took the roof skin off the cab that came with my first truck. The cab was rusted out from the top of the cowl down. The roof skin was just about the only thing salvageable.

Fiberglass

I found a fiberglass roof at Mid-Fifty. I guess it would be easier to just glue it on over the old roof???????
