Unbelievable! I mentioned that our shop found this problem (e-brake) causing vibrations in the 150 several months ago, and I was laughed off this board. "Oh no, it couldn't be THAT, stupid dealer. You don't know what you're talking about." So I kept my mouth shut and didn't bring it up again. As they say, no good deed goes unpunished.........

I remember you saying that, Jeff. It made sense to me...not sure why others couldn't at least consider it as a possibility. With enough heat and friction, I can see how it would start causing the rear wheel to catch off and on (causing a vibration).
E-brake = emergency brake. I think the issue was something was installed backwards and it was causing the emergency brake to not fully release (was always slightly engaged)

m@m Hopefully i can explane this right..Thiers a flat rod on your backing plate attached to your E brake cable enters inside rear rotors an attaches to sizzor looking rods that is attached to minney looking brake shoes.when E brake is applied cable pulls on flat rod then opens the sizzors. shoes push against rotors E brake is applied!! the problem was the hole for the flat rod was not .are you ready for this??? BIG enough ..so when i releasd E brake flat rod was getting hung up!!!! solution ? dealer drilled bigger hole NO MORE VIBSSSS. or tears...still need chvy jokes...good luck

1956MarkII - E-Brake
Mr. MarkII,
I did not see your post regarding the e-brake situation, could you tell me what your shop found, and what you did to rectify the problem, and was the vibration gone after your fix?
My 04 F150 SCab Lariet is at the dealers now, back for the third time for most of the various vibration and shudders discussed on this forum. Now they are talking about new, different front rotors and an updated steering box to address these vibration concerns, and the whine in the rear end will require a new, redesigned assembly when available.
Does any of this stuff sound correct?
Thanks a lot,
Bob[/FONT]

It was a few months ago, and I know I posted it in the 2004-2005 F-150 forum. Do a search in this forum and see if it's still there (it may have been deleted due to some "heated" arguments at the time). As I remember, we found 2 trucks where one or more of the parts was installed incorrectly (upside-down, I think). I brought this up as a possible solution to other F-150 owner's problems and it was immediately dismissed, even though it fixed our customer's vibration problem.

Parking brake: could this be our problem too?
We recently bought a 99 F-150 and at speeds around 55-60 mph, it vibrates terribly, though not all the time. It seems to come from somewhere in the front end. It can go almost a week without doing it. It has our dealer baffled. After reading this thread, I realized our parking brake sticks too. We have to manually pull our foot up on it to fully release it (till the light goes off) Could this be the problem? The dealer has had our truck for over a week now and has only gotten it to vibrate once and it didn't do it alot. They have no idea what it could be. I mentioned the vibration damper assembly (kit) but the Ford dealers around here don't seem to know what we mean. Any help as soon as possible would be very greatly appreciated...we want our truck back! lol You can contact me directly on MSN messenger username rednecgrl71@msn.com or by email at jencorey@verizon.net. Thanks!

Go to your dealer tell the[tech] to apply E brake..then release ,go for a ride for about 5 miles or better, brakes will heat up..if VIBS come back or get worse, its your E brake!!!he should know what to do..have patience!! work with your dealer! it goes a long way. believe it or not they want to fix this nightmare!! P.S. forced balanced twice..damper kit installed ,4 new tires. IT WAS E BRAKE!!!!!! Good luck...

1956MarkII, nobody here ever called you a "stupid dealer". And nobody ever said you "didn't know what you were talking about". Your imagination runs wild.
Your shop apparently found the little release spring on the parking brake release lever to be installed upside-down (you can see the spring behind the release lever in the cab). That's a totally different problem than m@m's scissor rod at the wheel not being big enough.
In high hopes, several of us pursued your comments as a solution to our vibrations. I took my truck to my dealer, and we drove the truck with the parking brake applied under several different tensions, simulating a dragging brake. We also removed the release lever spring and tried using it upside-down.
We could not simulate any type of vibration, or cause the one we had to go away. We dismissed your comments as a viable solution to the vibes. You clearly didn't like that for some odd reason.
There are so many different types of vibrations people are having with this truck, that unfortunately I don't think we've found a cure yet. But if it stimulates your ego, you can take all the credit for this vibrating pile if you want. It must feel great knowing that you've found the cure for the vibes when Ford can't.
