2002 Explorer XLS Compass and Trip Odometer

My 2002 Explorer came with only a trip odometer and overall mileage indicator. Does anyone know if I can activate the compass and temperature feature?

The L.E.D. readout shows it is capable of displaying a lot of information when you initially turn the ignition switch on so I am hoping the compass and temperature hardware is installed but just not activated.

Thanks

Brian V

I don't know if this makes any difference but the temperature sensor on my 00 explorer and my wifes 00 cougar are in the antenna. I guess there is some sort of thermocouple in the antenna for temp. As far as the compass I believe that they operate on a physics principal caled the hall effect. something about magnetically attracted molecules deflecting a piece of metal and giving direction.

So to get the temp it may be just a matter of the antenna. the compas may be a bit dificult to find.

The compass sensor is in the rear view mirror.

How about the temperature sensor I've heard it's in the grille... easy enough to add the thermocouple sensor!! And to activate the display? Any ideas?
