Steering Problem (w/ pictures)

Hey everyone,
I have a steering problem that i hope you can help me with on my 79 ranchero. This piece is in between the steering column and steering box. With the steering column removed, i can move the piece up and down, and to the left and right. With the column on, it could still move left and right. There is a lot of play, and i can see why, because there is a broken piece or a missing piece at the connection between the box and the piece. If anyone knows what is wrong or how to fix it, i would appreciate it!! Thanks!
Danny

i see it has a nut on top, is that nut tight? i also do not see a rag joint, that almost looks like something home made on the box. kinda hard to tell by the pics, so i may be missing something.

the "rag" is missing from the "rag joint". there is supposed to be flexible material in between the metal parts. the clamp on the input shaft looks like original factory parts to me? the "nut on top" looks like a bolt head.
