May be a dumb question but at the risk of sounding dumb here goes.Can you
use a 360 crank and 390 pistons and rods when doing a rebuild?I guess what I am asking is what is the difference between a 360 and a 390 crank?

The 360 has a 3.50 inch stroke, the 390 is 3.78"

 

No, you can't. The 360 already has low compression. Put 390 rods and pistons in it and you are at about 7:1 or less with a whole lotta quench area. It wouldn't run very well.

390 pistons and rods are shorter than the 360.

 

if your going thru the trouble to change out everything else why not change the crank?, check your local machine shop, i got a 390 crank for 40 bucks because someone never came back for it. the shop owner was glad to sell it to me for what he had in it.
