Cigarette lighter removal?

Just purchased a 2004 screw (lariat trim).

I'm not a smoker, so for me, the cigarette lighter is wasted space in the dash.
If I could get it out, that would be a great place to store a wallet or a cell phone assuming the hole that remains is finished.

Does anyone know?

The lighter pulls straight out...but the hole may be too small for your wallet...

replace your cigeratte lighter with a small flashlight that looks like a lighter.

They come standard on the VW Toureg.

I have heard that people are having problems blowing fuses if they use their lighter for an additional power supply. Figure I have 2 more so I am not taking my chances.

For a cell phone it will work fine. There is a fusable link, in the harness, to the cig lighter. So if you plug a heavy load into it, it could smoke the link. Causing a big mess to fix. That is what the dealer told me.
