M5OD or ZF5

1995 5.0 5 speed. How do I tell if its the M5OD or ZF5?

Look at the ID plate located on the side of tranny. The M5OD will be marked E87A XX, where the XX is the ford part number. The ZF will show model ZF and perhaps something like S5-42. The casting for the ZF has a raised diamond pattern and the M5OD has a raised rectangular pattern.

ID tags should be located on the drivers side.

Unless it was swapped, it's a Mazda (M5OD). The easiest way to tell is the M5OD does not have a granny gear, the ZF does.

if its in a bronco, its probably a M5OD. unless it was swapped, the ZF's where only offered in 3/4ton and heavier trucks.

Hey thanks guys. I know I should've read the manual and got under there but I always think of these questions at work.(besides the net is much faster here)
