FM Modulator install question

I don't want to replace the stock stereo, but I want to be able to plug in my mp3 player, so I'm thinking of getting a FM Modulator. I've seen some with an on\off switch, which I don't want to be turning on and off. I was wondering what I'd have to do for the FM modulator to turn on and off with the radio, is that possible? Any help with do, thanks.

you want the modulator to turn on when you use the mp3, and then off, when you want to receive the fm signal from the radio antennae. the modulator (if it is the kind that "T"'s into the antennae lead) cuts out the fm signal to reduce interference when using the mp3. then it outputs the mp3 input as an fm frequency which you tune on your radio.
so you need to switch it on and off when using the mp3 or radio.

I would recommend you can look into a fm broadcasting modulator (like a mini radio station)
it broadcasts the same mp3 signal over the airwaves, picked up by the fm antenna. this woks well on my sat radio module. sometimes in the cities i get interference, but it has 4 frequency outputs to choose. no wires or antennae lead to deal with.

the other "T" type modulator does cut down the fm signal strength too. so my vote , after trying both, is a broadcasting type

do a search under yahoo shopping / electronics or car audio for fm modulator and you will find many of both type

good luck

I do mobile video for a living. There are several wireless modulators you can choose from. Some you have to turn off when you are not using them because your am stations wont be there and weak fm stations wont come in. I have found a great one that I use on a daily basis. It has a on off switch but I always leave it on. It has 4 stations you can tune it to, 88.1 thru 88.7 , try IconTV.org cya...

What kind of MP3 player do you have? I have the ipod and use the itrip for a fm modulator. It just plugs onto the top of my ipod. Search around and you may find something like that and then you can use it on any radio not just in your truck. I paid around $30 for mine

I've been using the Belkin TuneCast II Mobile FM Transmitter and have been very happy. I live in a "radio-station dense" market and the TuneCast II's ability to tune to any channel within the FM band is a real plus. Here's a link to the Belkin website:

I'm using an iPod, I have this FM modulator, it's kinda weak... the sound really sucks at times and I hear a lot of hissing. That's why I sort-of want to get one that plugs to the antena on the back of the radio. I also have a Belkin car charge and connect the FM Modulator through the audio out but sound still sucks. I wish I had a tape player... the sound sounds a lot better using a tape adapter but a lot of cables. That's what I use to use on the previous car. I also want to make it like seamless... I was also thinking about the MONSTER iPod charger and FM modulator... I've read good reviews on that. Maybe that one will sound better? It's $70 and a FM modulator you can hook up directly to your antena is about $50 at my local mobile audio store. I've burnt some audio CD's which I haven't done in a long time because I don't like the bad quality... I don't want to stop using my iPod!
