Black Tailpipes

The tailpipes on my 2001 S/C V-6 automatic 31,000 miles are always black. I have installed Mac Air System and dual exhaust. Any help please?

Sounds like there is an excess carbon build up. Might want to try running a cleaner through your system, like Sea Foam. There is a thread around here somwhere on how to use it. Good luck to ya.

Have you noticed a change in gas mileage?

Wink

It is defiantly the nature of the beast. Mine is like that too, but not to bad. It's like our 4.2's burn on the rich side. Some have it worse the others. Maybe thats why not a whole lot of fellow 4.2 pull off 22mpg

I was thinking it might be a rich condition, might possibly ask to get an a/f graph done.

Ive never experianced blackened tips...except when I ran really really rich for about 3 days....Hmm..

It's got to be highway mileage lol. A 3.0L Taurus prolly can't even pull 22 off in town. I could pull 22 mpg in my auto if I go 45 . That's right when it kicks into overdrive/5th gear.
