17 vs 18 inch tires

Presently have 95 4X2 SC PSD. Looking to buy 2005 250HD 4X2 SC PSD. 18 inch tires are optional. What would be the advantage to the 18 inch tire? Any idea if 18 inch would raise bed height or would different ratio (75 vs 65) negate any difference? Tow a 5th wheel and don't cotton to flipping trailer axles so trailer rides fairly level under tow.

The second number in your tire size is what determines sidewall height, for instance, 265x75x16, the 75 means the sidewall is 75% as tall as the tire is wide. So with a 18 inch rim, your sidewall doesn't need to be as tall, so most 18 inch rims will have a 65% height sidewall.

I dont remember your exact question, but basically your tire will still be the same height, you'll just have more rim to see. It will make your ride a LITTLE stiffer, but not much, since you wont have as much rubber to soak up bumps.

Better yet, look at the selection of E load range 18" tires. I think the Goodyears that come stock on the 18" wheels are the only ones right now at ~$250 each.

I have 18" wheels on my truck, but I also have 35" tires.

The sidewall will be stiffer and give a little bit harsh of a ride. The upside is the tires don't flex in corners so they handle better. The price for tires is high right now, but I think as soon as more and more trucks come out with the larger wheels, the price will come down.

Had a blowout on my 5th wheel just as I pulled off I64 east of St Louis to spend the night. While at Goodyear getting a new tire mounted talked to counter man regarding 18 inch tires. Guess I'll stick with standard 17 inchers when I buy.

Thanks for your input.
