Question on EFI to Holley swap on 5.0

I have an 89 F-150 4x4 with a 302, I have recently rebuilt the motor and am having trouble with it fowling the plugs. I have about 5500 miles on it since the build and i have put four sets of plugs in it. I had a computer chip burned to the exact specs of the motor but it only seemed to make the problem worse. The engine is hard to start at times and when it finally does it stombles around and misses until you rev it up several times and it stops blowing black smoke out the pipes. I put a slightly larger cam in it than stock and I was worried about not having enough vaccum (SP?) So i hooked up another vaccum canister and that helped a little but my a/c controls on my dash still go crazy and i am still changing plugs. SO a friend of mine that is an o'l timer said I needed to swap out the EFI for a Holley 650 double pumper. I have purchased it along with intake, new ignition system, stall converter, and a bigger cam. But i am affraid of the unknown problems I am going to encounter with my AOD tranny. Any tips would be gladly appreciated. The Cam specs on the cam I am now running are:
Duration lift @.050 212/218 , Valve lift 474/474, Duration @ .006 Tappet lift 260/268 Lobe separation angle 114.

The cam I have purchased to put in once I install the carb is:
Duration Advertized 280/280, Duration lift @.050 230/230 Valve lift@ 1.6 512/512, Lobe separation angle 110. I have headers, the holley 650, and a 2400 rpm stall converter.

I drive the truck maybe once a month I just want something that has a great sound at an idle and with my 5.13 ring&pinion can turn my 38.5's in overdrive. The truck can do it now but it struggles and has the starting problem. I wish I had spent he extra money and just stroked it out to a 347 instead of building a 306.

Had probs with mine doing that until I installed an adj. fuel reg. It got rid of the fouled plugs. The vaccum prob still exsists due to speed density fuel injection. You shouldnt have any trouble with switching. You will need to change fuel lines, pump and regulator though. I would just to a speed density to mass air swap. You can find them for aod trannys. I am in a bit of a pickle because I have an E4OD and the only swap for mine is with a lightning kit and it is very expensive. I am currently looking into a Bauman Electronics TCS and I have a 89 mustang computer and a new Painless wiring harness so I am hoping it work work well. Its I would have gone with the sd to mass air swap but carbs are always cool.

Can't tell you a lot.
I looked into this once, but decided to make the fuel injection work instead. I love fuel injection when it's working right. But when it has problems .

Lobe seperation on the cam is supposed to be the primary thing that will cause problems with speed density. And 114 is good. So I don't know.

But on to the swap. I don't recall specifics, but there was a carbed application with an AOD tranny. It would have the necessary linkage for the tv cable. Sorry I can't be more specific. Otherwise you'll have to fab something. If the tv cable isn't set up properly you will destroy your tranny.

I didn't notice any mention on fuel pump changes?
There are two options:
1: mechanical pump.
2: low preasure pump hooked up to a fuel preasure regulator designed for carbs. Your in-tank pump might work for that. But my research didn't get that far.

I was wondering how much a SD to Mass Air would cost? What new equipment would I have to buy? And would I beable to Stroke it out later and not have the same problems I am now?

I just want to do what ever I can to get a good sounding, cursing motor. Gas mileage is out of the picture so I am just shooting for power.
