Fuel Filter Change

I have a 2002 Explorer XLT with the 4.0 L. It has 42,000 miles so far. When do you recommend changing the fuel filter? I was thinking it might be a good ida pretty soon.

Thanks!

I changed my filter recently after 30,000 miles of service as part of regular maintenance (no performance problems). I don't know how clogged it was, but a bunch of particulate material came out. I think I will change mine a little more often. I try to use better gas at newer stations, but dirt seems to get in anyway. I would say after 45,000 you are due for a new filter.

Its easy to change yourself with a special tool available at most auto parts stores.

Read this thread:

The filter is located under the driver on the frame. You must go under the car on your back and look up to get to it. It is a round metal can about the size of a soda can with a hoses on each side.
